As soon as Janine dismounted Archer, the black Arabian stallion her father bought her for her sixteenth birthday, she pulled her riding helmet off her head and hung it up on the wall where the rest of the helmets were. Turning back to Archer, she scratched the place between his eyes and smiled. The stallion was a sweet thing and she had a soft spot for him. He nuzzled his face against her bag, smelling the apple she had saved there for him. Pulling it out, she fed the fruit to Archer, being careful not to get anything on her. She didn't want sticky apple juice all over her. Janine took Archer's bridle and saddle off and hung them up in their proper places before grabbing a couple brushes to take care of Archer with.
Returning to the stall, Janine began to brush Archer down. She liked it here in the stables. Although it smelled weird, there were usually only a few students around here to annoy her, especially now. With the new students running around St. Gregory's, they thought they owned the school. They were the type of people that expected to just be accepted into the school's social system. Little did they know that Janine practically ran the social system. She knew how to manipulate people into doing what she wanted them to and if the new kids got on her nerves, it wouldn't be hard to make them social outcasts. There were, however, a couple interesting new characters. She could admit that.
Janine was in dire need of getting high at this point. It was so much better than reality. School was boring. Getting high made it some much more interesting. Janine stroked Archer's shining coat and glanced around the stables. There were a couple kids around, but they all knew enough to not talk to her. Instead, they were engulfed in taking care of their horses, not willing to get a verbal lashing. Janine scratched Archer between his eyes again and ran her fingers through his hair.

Aurora found herself wandering into the stables. She took a deep breath and sighed as the pungent smell of hay and horses his her nose. She loved horses. The reminded her of Philip for some reason. She paused, she hadn't seen Philip at all since she'd found herself in this new world. It was a little frightening to find herself alone in this new world, but she was determined. She'd find others like her, and make friends with those who were not. She looked up and down the stable, spotting a few of her fellow students.
Her eyes landed on the girl petting the black Arabian. Aurora bit her lip gently. She'd heard things about this girl...that she wasn't one of the nicest people to befriend. She had to try. Slowly, cautiously, she walked up to the girl, "Hello." She said softly. "That's a beautiful horse you have there." She fidgeted with the hem of her white blouse, nervous.

Janine glanced up when she heard someone talk to her. Who said what now? She scowled as soon as she noticed that it was one of the new kids. Who said they had permission to talk to her, let alone get close to her, especially while she was with Archer. This was her time and everyone else knew not to irritate her within 100 feet of the stable. Not even Janine's friends talked to her during this time. There were just some things that you didn't do and this was one of them.
"Excuse me?" Janine asked the girl, raising her eyebrow, "Are you talking to me?" Her voice was cold and Janine didn't even try to hide her loathing. Why? Everyone else around St. Gregory's knew very well that the new kids were nowhere near her happy list. And this little bimbo was probably one of those girls that thought she could just be happy and be friends with everyone. Sorry babe, welcome to the real world. New rules in Janine's school.

Aurora shrunk back a little but stiffened her resolve. She wanted to at least try. "Yes, I was talking to you. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you. I'm new here and just wanted to get to know some people." Her voice was soft and she looked at the horse. "I figured coming to the stables would be good because we'd have a common interest." She shrugged and looked down the stables in case this new girl blew her off, which seemed like a real good possibility.

"I'm sorry," Janine answered back, her voice calm, "Maybe you don't know how things work around here, dearie. I run this school. Everyone around here knows this and it would be a good idea for you to learn this, too. If you want to survive around here, you need to be on my good side. The best way of doing this is to avoid me. If I don't see you, I don't say bad stuff about you, you get my drift?" Her voice sounded like a parent trying to teach their child but losing patience quickly.

Aurora stared at her for a second. "You know...I have heard about you. I may be new, but talk travels fast through the halls. Why don't you like us? It's not like we've done anything to you...you haven't given us a chance to. I just came to say hi, try to get to know you." She reached out and stroked the horse's muzzle. "I'm sorry if that is out of line."

Janine raised her eyebrow. "So if you've heard of me, what made you think I would be different around you? Do you think you're special or something? Just because you're new doesn't mean that everyone has to be nice to you and pity you since you have no other friends." Yes, Janine was being mean. No, she really didn't care. If someone didn't know how things went around St. Gregory's, she was there to keep them in line. Someone had to and it just so happened that Janine enjoyed doing the dirty work.
Archer could sense the tense air and pushed his nose against Janine, trying to distract her. Janine scratched the place between his eyes again, not taking her eyes off of the new girl. Indignantly, she realized that the new girl hadn't even introduced herself, although Janine really had to admit that she could care less what this girl's name was anyways. She'd hear it eventually if it was really important.

Aurora gave a sigh. Why does this girl seem to think everyone is beneath her? Her attention turned back to the beautiful horse in the stable. It was the exact opposite of Philip's horse. She smiled. She could just picture the beautiful stallion and the way Philip looked when he was riding. He was going to teach her to ride too. Maybe when they got back home...if they got back home...she would get something like this glorious creature. It was a pity this beautiful animal belonged to such a horrid of beings...
"No I didn't think you'd be any different around me. I don't expect to be everyone's friend or have everyone be nice to me, but I'll let you know right now...I don't want nor do I need your pity...it's beneath me." She frowned. She had tried to be nice and make friends but this girl wouldn't let her. "So before you think your pity is worth my time...try realizing, while the school may be under your control the world doesn't even know who you are..."

Janine smirked a little. This girl who had been so timid earlier had grown some balls and stood up to Janine. She could admire that. She had some potential. "What's your name?" Janine demanded of the new girl, intrigued. If she played her cards right, she could turn this girl into one of her bloodthirsty cohorts. This prissy little princess was interesting and could go far in this school if she had the balls to do so and stand up to the big bad wolves out there.

She narrowed her eyes and raised an eyebrow. "Do you really care?" She said quickly, then instantly regretted it. This girl seemed like she was at least trying...she wanted to know her name. "Aurora Mastriani." She said. She looked around. She already knew this girl's name but it was only polite to ask. "And you?" A small smile came to her lips. It was a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, but was convincing enough.
Her hand idly reached out and stroked the horse's mane while she waited to hear Janine introduce herself. Oh yes...Aurora knew a lot about this girl. She was rich, mean, cold, shallow and on anything that could distort your social perception of life. This girl wasn't someone Aurora really wanted to get close to, but she had to at least try. Maybe one day, she could change?

Janine laughed a tiny bit, although it wasn't the joyful type of laugh you would typically hear. "Do you really need to know my name if you've already heard about me around school?" She didn't think so. If Aurora had heard about Janine before, she had probably heard her name so there was no need to introduce herself. It was just a waste of words and Janine wasn't one to waste words. She said what was necessary and what was on her mind and that was it.
Janine studied the other girl. She didn't look like the type of person who could get completely involved with a life like Janine's. Aurora had goody two shoes embedded in her DNA and Janine wasn't fully confident with her abilities to change someone to believe that she could make Aurora do a 180. Aurora might be someone she could use in the future, though, and Janine wasn't exactly sure that it would be beneficial to burn all bridges with her. However, she still wasn't a huge fan of Aurora or any of the other newbie innocents, really.

"No...I suppose I don't, Janine. I just thought it polite to ask. Idle chit chat and what not." Her eyes watched the beautiful horse. "Well...since I don't know your horses name...may I ask it?" She had been petting the creature, or at least trying to. She hoped this horse wasn't as ill-tempered as her owner...it would be such a pity for such a beautiful creature to have such an ugly streak. So far it didn't seem to take after its owner much.
"How often do you ride? Did you learn as a child? Is it difficult to learn?" Her smile cracked a bit and she blushed, "Sorry for asking so many questions...I just love horses and have never really been privileged enough to get a chance to learn how. Philip was going to teach me before I came here...I hope he still will when I can get back." She watched Janine.
